HIGH RISK MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK

hse_management_diagram_2

Our risk based approach aims to manage strategic and operational HSE risks through the effective integration thereof into existing business processes.

In order to ensure that the management systems are risk based, the process is initiated with the development of a HSE risk management framework. This provides the foundation for the implementation of measures to mitigate HSE risks through elimination, substitution, engineering, monitoring or administrative HSE controls.

Management’s involvement from the get-go is crucial and a key success factor for not only this phase, but also the sustainability of the management systems and structure, to ultimately mitigate HSE risks.

IMPLEMENTATION OF HSE RISK MANAGEMENT CONTROLS

Shangoni believes that, pivotal to the effective implementation and sustainability of HSE risk management controls, are communication, monitoring and reporting. To ensure that these fundamentals are achieved, HSE systems are based on and supported by:

HSE Steering Committees

HSE committees are established or adapted at the various levels of the organisations, to not only promote HSE, but also consultation and participation with relevant role players.

Execution of Actions

Monitoring the effectiveness of the existing HSE risk management processes and controls is key to improving HSE performance and reducing HSE risk. Based on the principle of preventive maintenance, HSE functions and tasks are either included into a HSE Calendar or logged into an action tracking platform.

Reporting on Leading and Lagging Indicators

To reduce the risk profile and improve HSE performance, monitoring data is critical. This is not limited to physical monitoring, but also focused on the effectiveness of current controls.

ASSURANCE OF HSE RISK MANAGEMENT CONTROLS

HSE assurance focuses on determining the effectiveness of the HSE systems in managing risks and the availability, reliability and effectiveness of existing controls.

Mechanisms utilised to provide this assurance relates to:

Control Effectiveness Verification

Internal Audit

HSE Strategic and Management Review

HSE Legal Compliance Assessment (LCA)

Change Impact Screening
