NOTICE OF THE APPLICATION FOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION AND A WATER USE LICENCE FOR THE PROPOSED STORM WATER MANAGEMENT PROJECT (DMRE REF.: LP 30/5/1/3/2/1 (58) MR) (DWS REF.: WU19854)

This advertisement gives notice to potential Interested and Affected Parties (“I&APs”) about where information in respect of the application for the Storm Water Management Project (“SWMP”) at Venetia Mine can be obtained, as well as the opportunity I&APs must comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Assessment (“EIA”) / Environmental Management Programme Report (“EMPr”) and Water Use Licence (“WUL”) Technical Support Document.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

People have a right to be informed about potential decisions that may affect them and to be afforded an opportunity to influence those decisions. This advertisement forms part of a Public Participation Process as part of the NEMA and NWA process. It describes the various components of the project to enable I&APs to get a better understanding of the potential environmental and social impacts that could be expected from the proposed project. It also outlines the NEMA and NWA process and the opportunities for the public to become involved during the course of the study.

Register as an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP)

You may register as an I&AP. To register as an I&AP of this project, or to obtain more information or submit comments, please request a Registration Form from Shangoni and return it together with any comments to Shangoni by no later than 14 December 2021 at the details provided below.

Availability of the Draft EIA/EMPr Report and WUL Technical Support Document

The Draft EIA/EMPr Report and WUL Technical Support Document are available to the public for review for a period of thirty (30) days, from 15 November to 14 December 2021. An electronic copy of the Draft EIA/EMPr Report and WUL Technical Support Document will be posted on the Shangoni’s website (www.shangoni.co.za) for public comment for the same period of thirty days. The Draft EIA/EMPr Report will also be made available at the Musina Local Municipality. E-mail or fax your comments to Shangoni (details provided below) by no later than 14 December 2021.

Public Meeting

Public meetings will be held on 29 November 2021 at two venues. Diamond Club Musina (across White House) from 08:30 to 11:00; and at the Mapangubwe Auditorium from 12:30 to 15:00. Due to Covid, there is a maximum of 50% capacity allowed at each venue. You are, therefore, requested to RSVP by the 22 November 2021 to ensure arrangements are made for all attendees.
