FARMER ANGUS EGGS (PTY) LTD – NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AUHORISATION – DRAFT BASIC ASSESSMENT FOR THE PROPOSED EXPANSION OF THE EXISTING MOBILE CHICKEN ENCLOSURES AT FARMER ANGUS EGGS TO INCREASE THEIR POULTRY PRODUCTION Ref No: 6/3/3/6/7/1/B4/45/1021/25
This advertisement gives notice in terms of Regulation 21 and 24 of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2014 as amended, to the potential Interested and Affected Parties (“I&APs”) about where information can be obtained in respect of the application for environmental authorisation, as well as the opportunity that I&APs have, to comment on the draft Basic Assessment Report (“BAR”).
BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT
The farm currently consists of 21 existing mobile chicken enclosures, which contain 230 chickens in each enclosure on Portion 7 and the Remainder of Portion 10 of the Farm Stellenbosch No. 502. The mobile chicken enclosures were initially erected over one area during July 2012. When the mobile chicken enclosures were initially established during 2012, no listed activities in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (“NEMA”) EIA Regulations 2010 were triggered. However, Farmer Angus Eggs is proposing to add 21 additional mobile chicken houses to the existing operation and to increase the number of chickens to 10 000.
LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS
A Basic Assessment report will be required in compliance with the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No.107 of 1998) (“NEMA”) and the NEMA Environmental Impact Assessment (“EIA”) Regulations, 2014 (GN R982 of 4 December 2014) as amended, for the authorisation of Activity 67 in Listing Notice 1 of 2014 (GN R983 of 4 December 2014) (“GNR 983”) as amended.
Application Status
A Notice of Intent (“NOI”) was submitted to the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEADP”) on 16 January 2025 and the Pre-Application meeting was held on 7 March 2025.

People have a right to be informed about activities and potential impacts that may affect them and to be afforded the opportunity to participate in and influence the decisions and outcomes of the proposed project.
To register as an I&AP of this project, or to obtain more information or submit comments, please request a Registration Form from Shangoni and return it together with any comments to Shangoni by no later than 22 May 2025 at the details provided below.
AVAILABILITY OF THE DRAFT REPORTS
The draft BA is available to the public for review for a period of thirty (30) days, from 17 April 2025 to 22 May 2025. An electronic copy of the draft BA Technical Report will also be posted on Shangoni’s website (www.shangoni.co.za) for public comment for the same period as stated above.
