COMPETENT AUTHORITY: INTEGRATED RESOURCE PLAN ACTIVITIES
Title: Identification of the Minister as Competent Authority for the consideration and processing of environmental authorisations and amendments thereto for activities related to the Integrated Resource Plan 2010-2030
Government Notice: GN 779 in GG 40110 of 1 July 2016
Date of commencement: 1 July 2016
South Africa’s commitments to conduct carbon dioxide mitigation actions are implemented through, amongst other things, the Integrated Resource Plan 2010-2030. The concern regarding who the competent authority is for environmental authorisation applications for renewable energy has been raised since 2011. This notice now confirms that the Minister of Environmental Affairs is the Competent Authority for the consideration and processing of environmental authorisations and amendments thereto for activities related to the Integrated Resource Plan 2010-2030.
Members of the public are invited to submit to the Minister, within 30 days after the publication of the notice in the Gazette, written representations or objections to the addresses specified in the notice.
“So what” for my operation?
It is important for your organisation to submit all applications for environmental authorisations, or amendments thereto, for activities related to the Integrated Resource Plan, to the Minister of Environmental Affairs.
