DECLARATION OF PARTICULAR GROUPS OF TREES AS “CHAMPION TREES”
Title: Notice of Declaration of Particular Groups of Trees “Champion Trees” under the National Forests Act, 1998 (Act No. 84 of 1998), as amended.

Commencing date: 18 October 2019
The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries has declared all particular trees and particular groups of trees set out in the schedule of the abovementioned Notice as protected trees. For a copy of the Notice click here
How to ensure compliance at my operation?
A licence is required to cut, disturb, damage or destroy a protected tree or to possess, collect, remove, transport, export, purchase, sell, donate or in any other manner acquire or dispose of any protected tree or any forest product derived from a protected tree.
Contravention of this declaration is regarded as a first category offence that may result in a person who is found guilty of being sentenced to a fine or imprisonment for a period up to three years, or both a fine and imprisonment.
