In terms of section 24J of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 the Minister of Environmental Affairs may publish guidelines regarding the implementation, administration and institutional arrangements of regulations made under this Act. In this notice the Minister published draft generic environmental management programmes (EMPrs) for overhead powerline construction and substation construction.
Members of the public are invited to submit to the Minister, within 30 days after the publication of the notice in the Gazette, written representations or objections to the addresses specified in the notice.

If your organisation plans to construct overhead powerlines or substations, it is important to take note of, and ensure alignment between the content of the EMPr of your project with the generic EMPr, once this guideline has been finalised.
