ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT PRACTITIONERS ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH AFRICA APPOINTED

The Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (“EAPASA”) was appointed as the single Registration Authority on 8 February 2018. The appointment is valid for a period of five years.

The Section 24H Registration Authority Regulations, 2016 also came into operation on 8 February 2018. In terms of Regulation 22(2) of these regulations environmental assessment practitioners will have 24 months (ea. 7 February 2020) to register with EAPASA.

So what for my operation?
With effect from 7 February 2020 only environmental assessment practitioners registered with EAPASA may hold primary responsibility for the planning, management, coordination or review of environmental impact assessments and associated EMPrs.  The requirement to register with EAPASA applies to officials reviewing applications and consultants in private practice.
