LOOMING DEADLINE: GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION REGISTRATION

The deadline for registration by all operations classified as a Category A data provider in terms of regulation 4(1)(a) of the National Greenhouse Gas Emission Reporting Regulations is 3 May 2017.
All Category A data providers must register its facilities where activities exceed the thresholds listed in Annexure 1 to these Regulations by providing the relevant information as listed in Annexure 2 to these Regulations, within 30 days after the commencement of these Regulations.
Also remember of the reporting requirements that must be adhered to by all Category A and B data providers.
So what for my operation?
If your organisation is classified as either a Category A or B data provider, you have certain registration and reporting requirements pertaining to greenhouse gas emissions. If you do not adhere to these requirements, you can be held liable in the case of a first conviction to a fine not exceeding R5 million or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years and in the case of a second or subsequent conviction to a fine not exceeding R10 million or imprisonment for a period not exceeding 10 years and in respect of both instances to both such fine and such imprisonment.
