Government Notice: GN 6443 in GG 53025 on 18 July 2025

Commencing date: 1 November 2025

The Chief Inspector of Mines, in terms of section 49(6) read together with sections 9(2) and 9(3) of the MHSA, issued the Guidance Note for the Prevention and Management of Non-communicable Diseases (“NCDs”) and Mental Health Disorders in the South African Mining Industry for implementation with effect from 1 November 2025.

The guidance note has been developed to provide information for the employer to use in developing and implementing a programme to assist employees in the prevention and management of NCDs and mental health disorders. Based on the outcomes of the risk assessment, a programme should be developed to outline measures that will be put in place to prevent and manage NCDs and mental health disorders among employees in the South African mining industry.
