The Chief Inspector of Mines, in terms of section 49(6) read together with sections 9(2) and 9(3) of the MHSA, issued the Guideline for a Mandatory Code of Practice for Change Management in the South African Mining Industry, for implementation with effect from 1 October 2025.

The guideline covers the significant health and safety aspects associated with change management in the South African mining industry. The guideline provides a systematic approach for managing significant organisational changes across the mining sector or at mines. Changes may include, but are not limited to, operational, structural, regulatory, market-driven and cultural transformation. Changes may occur at all areas of a mine.
