The Chief Inspector appointed in terms of section 27(2) of the OHSA, under section 44 of the OHSA incorporated the National Code of Practice for Electrical Machinery in Hazardous Locations: Regulatory requirements for explosion-protected apparatus, 2022 (“COP”) into the Electrical Installation Regulations, GNR 242 of 6 March 2009 (“EIR”) and the Electrical Machinery Regulations, GNR 250 of 25 March 2011 (“EMR”).
The recommended practice deals with product conformity requirements for explosion-protected apparatus used in South Africa.

How to ensure compliance at my operations?
Employers must ensure that all explosion-protected apparatus used conform to the product requirements recommended in the COP.
