The Minister of Water and Sanitation intends to introduce the Water Service Amendment Bill, 2025, into Parliament. The Explanatory Summary of the Bill was published in accordance with Rules 271 and 276 (1)(b) and (c) of the Rules of the National Assembly.
The Water Services Amendment Bill, 2025 (the “Bill”) amends the Water Services Act, 108 of 1997 (“WSA”). The Bill seeks to:
(a) address the decline in the provision of water and sanitation services;
(b) introduce accountability on Water Service Providers; and
(c) strengthen enforcement of compliance with the Water Services Act.
A copy of the Bill will be obtainable from the Department of Water and Sanitation’s website at http://www.dws.gov.za after introduction of the Bill, and also by contacting Ms M Khuduga, at KhudugaM@dws.gov.za. Alternatively, hardcopies may be requested, after the actual introduction of the Bill, from the Government Printers at Pretoria or Cape Town.
