World Nature Conservation Day 2024 (28th July)
World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated annually on the 28th of July 2024. It’s a day dedicated to raising awareness about protecting our planet’s natural resources and biodiversity.
The formal birth of World Nature Conservation Day took place in 1972 at the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden.
World Nature Conservation Day serves as a crucial platform to:
- Raise awareness about the importance of protecting nature and biodiversity.
- Encourage individuals and communities to act towards sustainable practices.
- Advocate for policy changes and international cooperation for environmental protection.
- Celebrate achievements and success stories in nature conservation.
By understanding the potential themes and the significance of World Nature Conservation Day, we can be better prepared to engage in meaningful action and contribute to a healthier planet for all citizens.
Recently Shangoni Management Services (Pty) Ltd (Shangoni) joined a snare walk organised by Rooikat Conservation. We spent the morning searching for snares set for wildlife species in the natural environments (open spaces) in and around the city. This form of poaching is cruel, and the animals seldom escape often dying of strangulation or starvation.
Lee-Anne Fellowes and Christelle Truter studied Nature Conservation and are passionate about nature and conserving biodiversity.
Shangoni offers the following services related to Nature Conservation:
- Biodiversity Action Plans,
- Habitat Analysis,
- Land Management Plans,
- Vegetation studies,
- State of the Environment Reports,
- Natural Capital Accounting,
- Alien Invasive surveys and management plans, and
- Avi-fauna studies.
