CLIMATE CHANGE BILL IN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY: NOTICE OF INTRODUCTION OF NATIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE BILL IN NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND PUBLICATION OF EXPLANATORY SUMMARY

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (“the Minister”) published a notice in terms of Rule 276(1)(b) of the Rules of the National Assembly of her intention to introduce the National Climate Change Bill (“the Bill”) in the National Assembly.
In addition to the above, the explanatory summary of the Bill was published in accordance with Rule 276(1)(c) of the Rules of the National Assembly.
The Bill seeks to enable the development of an effective climate change response and a long term, just transition to a climate resilient and low carbon economy and society for South Africa in the context of sustainable development.
The Bill provides for:
- The definition of terms and the application for the Act;
- Policy alignment and Institutional agreements
- Matters pertaining to the national adaptation to the impacts of climate change,
- Greenhouse gas emissions and removals; and
- General matters and transitional arrangements.
