DISASTER MANAGEMENT ACT 57 OF 2002: WITHDRAWAL OF VARIOUS DIRECTIONS REGARDING MEASURES TO ADDRESS, PREVENT AND COMBAT THE SPREAD OF COVID-19

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (“the Minister”) withdrew the following Directions in terms of regulation 4(11) of the Regulations issued by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in terms of section 27(2) of the DMA, published under GNR 480 on 29 April 2020, as amended:
- Directions regarding measures to address, prevent and combat the spread of Covid-19 relating to national environmental management permits and licences issued in GNR 650 of 5 June 2020;
- Directions regarding measures to address, prevent and combat the spread of Covid-19 relating to national environmental management permits and licences issued in GNR 970 of 9 September 2020;
- Directions for Alert Level 3 regarding measures to address, prevent and combat the spread of Covid-19 relating to the forestry sector issued in GNR 649 of 5 June 2020.

How to ensure compliance at my operations?
Employers who are in the process of applying for any permits and licences and/or appeal process contemplated in the following legislation must take note of the changes:
- National Appeal Regulations, GNR 993 of 8 December 2014;
- National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act, 39 of 2004;
- National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 59 of 2008;
- Waste Tyre Regulations, GNR 1064 of 29 September 2017;
- Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, GNR 982 of 4 December 2014.
