ACCREDITATION DEADLINE FOR FIRST AID TRAINING PROVIDERS EXTENDED

Commencing date: 31 March 2020

The Chief Inspector of the Department of Labour has, in terms of section 27(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, given notice that as from the date of this notice, all applications for approval from a person or organisation who wants to provide First Aid training approved by the Chief Inspector will only be considered if it is accompanied by a valid accreditation document issued by a Quality Assurance Body that has been delegated the quality assurance responsibilities for First Aid unit standards by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations.

First Aid Training providers already registered with the Department of Labour, have until 31 March 2020 to gain accreditation with a Quality Assurance Body provided that all applications for accreditation is submitted on or before 30 April 2019.

How to ensure compliance at my operation?
It must be ensured that service providers appointed for the provision of training of First Aiders are registered with the Department of Labour and accredited by a Quality Assurance Body.

First Aid Training providers must ensure that they are registered with the Department of Labour. Furthermore, a valid accreditation certificate issued by a Quality Assurance Body that must be obtained. First Aid Training providers already registered with the Department of Labour have until 31 March 2020 to gain such accreditation.
