HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES ACT 15 OF 1973: DECLARATION OF LEAD IN PAINT AS A GROUP II HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE
Notice Title: Hazardous Substances Act 15 of 1973 (“HSA”): Declaration of lead in Paint as a Group II Hazardous Substance

Commencing date: 17 May 2025
The Minister of Health, in terms of section 2(1) of the HSA, declare leaded paint or coating material to be a Group II hazardous substance.
The declaration of leaded paint as Group I hazardous substance, published in GNR 801 of 31 July 2009 will be repealed upon commencement of the Declaration. The declaration comes into operation one year after the date of final publication (i.e. 17 May 2025).
