The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (“the Minister”) in terms of sections 24(5)(e), 24H and 44 of the NEMA, amended the Section 24H Registration Authority Regulations, GNR 849 of 22 July 2016, as amended (“the Regulations”), by extending the commencement date of regulation 14 with an additional 6 months from 8 February 2022 to 8 August 2022.
Regulation 14 of the Regulations provides that no person other than a registered environmental assessment practitioner (“EAP”) registered with a registrations authority, may hold primary responsibility for the planning, management, coordination or reviews of environmental impact assessments and associated environmental management programmes.

How to ensure compliance at my operations?
EAPs are encouraged to continue to submit their applications for registration to the EAPASA. It must also be borne in mind that, in terms of the Regulations, the EAPASA has 120 days to process applications.
