Notice Title: National Environmental Management Act, 107 of 1998 (“NEMA”): Consultation on the intention to extend the appointment of the Environmental Practitioners Association of South Africa as the single registration authority in terms of section 24H(3) read with 24H(6) of the NEMA, for a period of 2 years
Government Notice: GN 4137 in GG 49793 on 1 December 2023
Commencing date: Comments to be submitted on or before 2 January 2024
The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment intends to extend the appointment of the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (“EAPASA”), as a single registration authority, in terms of section 24H(3), read with section 24H(6), of the NEMA for a period of 2 years.
The EAPASA was appointed as the single registration authority for a period of five years, with effect from 8 February 2018 until 7 February 2023, whereafter the period of appointment was extended until 7 February 2024. Since the Department is still in the process of considering options for the long-term regulation of environmental assessment practitioners and determining whether law reform, which is a lengthy process, would be required, the intention is to further extend the period of appointment of EAPASA until 7 February 2026.
Members of the public are invited to submit written comments and inputs on or before 2 January 2024. For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here.
