Commencing date: Comments to be submitted by 25 August 2022

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (“the Minister”) intends to make regulations pertaining to the exploration and production of onshore oil and gas requiring hydraulic fracturing (“draft Regulations”) under sections 44(1)(a) and (1)(aA), read with sections 24(5)(b)(x) and 24(5)(h) of the NEMA.

The draft Regulations include the following Chapters:

  • Definitions, purpose and application
  • Prohibitions
  • Exploration and production for onshore oil and gas
  • Hydraulic fracturing for onshore oil and gas
  • Operations and management
  • General
