Notice Title: National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004 (“NEMAQA”): Draft Sectoral Emission Targets Report for public comment

Government Notice: GN 4763 in GG 50571 on 26 April 2024

Commencing date: Comments to be submitted on or before 25 June 2024

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment published the Draft Sectoral Emission Targets (“SETs”) Report for public comment.

The SETs Report details the proposed SETs allocation targets to be adopted by the sector departments to support South Africa in meeting its domestic and international commitment to combat climate change and to support the implementation of South Africa’s National Determined Contribution (“NDC”) under the Paris Agreement.

The SETs form a key national policy instrument defined in the National Climate Change Policy (2011) that will drive South Africa’s transition to lower carbon economy and climate resilience society, and will anchor the attainment of the National Development Plan (Vision 2030).

Members of the public are invited to submit written comments and inputs on or before 25 June 2024. For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here.
