The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (“the Minister”) in terms of section 43(1)(b) and section 43(3)(a) of the NEMBA published the Biodiversity Management Plans for Aloe Ferox and Honeybush Species (Cyclopia Subternata and Cyclopia Intermedia) for implementation.
In terms of section 43(3)(c) of the NEMBA, the Minister assigned the responsibility for the implementation of the Biodiversity Management Plan for Aloe Ferox to the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism.
The Minister assigned the responsibility for the implementation of the Biodiversity Management Plan for Honeybush Species (Cyclopia Subternata and Cyclopia Intermedia) jointly to the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning and the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, supported by the Honeybush Community of Practice and the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. This joint assignment of responsibility is only a temporary arrangement pending finalisation of the process to identify a suitable person, organisation or organ of state.

All Implementing Agencies (Harvesters, TRAFFIC, Industry, Provincial conservation agencies, SANBI/Scientific Authority, Western Cape Department, CapeNature, DFFE, DSI, Lesotho Department of Environment, MDTPA, District and local municipalities, Tribal Authorities, Landowners, Communities, Aloe Council, Tappers & COGTA) must take note of the published Biodiversity Management Plans.
