NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: PROTECTED AREAS ACT 57 OF 2003: CONSULTATION ON THE INTENTION TO DECLARE CERTAIN PROPERTIES TO BE PART OF EXISTING NATIONAL PARKS AND WITHDRAWAL OF NATIONAL PARK STATUS

Notice Title: National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act 57 of 2003 (“NEMPA”): Consultation on the intention to declare certain properties to be part of existing National Parks and withdrawal of national park status

Government Notices: GN 2366 – 2372 in GG 46705 on 12 August 2022

Commencing date: Comments to be submitted by 11 October 2022

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (“the Minister”) under section 20(1)(a)(ii), read with section 31 and 33 of the NEMPA intends to declare certain properties to be part of existing National Parks as follow:

  • Certain properties situated in the Western Cape Province to be part of the existing Aghulas National Park (GN2366: For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here)
  • Certain properties situated in the Northern Cape Province to be part of the existing Augrabies National Park (GN2367: For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here)
  • Certain properties situated in the Eastern Cape Province to be part of the existing Camdeboo National Park (GN2368: For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here)
  • Certain properties situated in the Western Cape Province to be part of the existing Karoo National Park (GN2370: For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here)
  • Certain properties situated in the Northern Cape Province to be part of the existing Mokala National Park (GN2371: For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here)
  • Certain properties situated in the Western Cape Province to be part of the existing Table Mountain National Park (GN2372: For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here)

Further, the Minister intends to withdraw the national park status of the Groenkloof National Park and its properties (GN2369: For a copy of the Government Gazette Notice click here)

Members of the public are invited to submit written comments and inputs on or before 11 October 2022.
