NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: WASTE ACT 59 OF 2008: EXTENDED PRODUCER RESPONSIBILITY SCHEME FOR THE LUBRICANT OIL SECTOR

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (“the Minister”), intents in terms of section 18(1) and (3), read with sections 72 and 73 of the NEMWA to require the producers of lubricant oil to implement specified extended producer responsibility measures.
A producer of lubricant oil (meaning all virgin and re-refined mineral and synthetically based lubricants, with or without additives that is used for lubrication within heat transfer, load transfer, insulation or any other application) will be required, amongst other, to establish an Extended Producer Responsibility Scheme in accordance with the provisions of the Extended Producer Responsibility Regulations, 2020.
