NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: WASTE ACT 59 OF 2008: PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO THE WASTE CLASSIFICATION AND MANAGEMENT REGULATIONS, 2013

The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (“the Minister”), in terms of section 69(1)(a), (b), (g), (h), (m), (q), (r), (s), (dd), and (ee), read together with sections 72 and 73 of the NEMWA intends to amend the Waste Classification and Management Regulations, GNR 634 of 23 August 2013 and published the proposed amendments for public comment.
The proposed amendments relate to amongst other the following:
- Inclusion, substitution and deletion of definitions
- Purpose of the Regulation
- Waste classification
- Safety data sheets
- General (Regulation 6)
- Waste treatment
- Waste disposal to landfill
- Deletion of Chapter 4 which relate to waste management activities that do not require a waste management licence
- Offences and penalties
- Annexure 1
