NATIONAL WATER ACT 36 OF 1998: NOTICE FOR THE REGISTRATION OF EXISTING DAMS WITH A SAFETY RISK IN TERMS OF THE ACT

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, duly authorised in terms of section 123(1) of the NWA read with regulation 37 of the Dam Safety Regulations GNR 139 of 24 February 2012, is notifying all owners of existing unregistered dams with a safety risk in terms of section 120 of the NWA to register their dam(s) at the Department and for owners of existing registered dams to confirm their details.
The Classification and Registration forms for dams with a safety risk can be accessed at the department’s website or by following this link: https://www.dws.gov.za/DSO/forms.aspx
Owners have 60 days within which to either register their unregistered dam(s) and/or confirm details of their existing registered dams i.e. on or before 21 January 2025.
