NATURAL SCIENTIFIC PROFESSIONS ACT: FIELDS OF PRACTICE

The purpose of this Act is to provide for the establishment of the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) and for the registration of professional, candidate and certificated natural scientists. No person may practise in any of the fields of practice listed in Schedule I, unless he or she is registered as a professional natural scientist, candidate natural scientist or a certified natural scientist in terms of this Act. Only a registered person may practise in a consulting capacity.
The fields of practice have been amended to now include atmospheric science, including climatology and meteorology.
“So what” for my operation?
Should your organisation make use of the services of a specialist in any of the listed fields of practice for specialist studies or environmental impact assessments, it must be ensured that such is registered as a professional natural scientist with SACNASP.
